Netflix aced the test it already took and got marked down for the one it hasn't sat yet.
$NFLX -5.21%, at a two-year low per today's coverage. Q3 EPS came in at 87 cents, beating consensus by 6.1%, and operating margin expanded to 34.6%. Then came the forward page. Q4 guidance calls for 11.5% revenue growth and 15% earnings growth, which coverage called the weakest in over three years. The 2026 ad revenue outlook was trimmed to $2.7B and the free cash flow forecast to $12B, blamed on a slower-than-expected ad product rollout.
A beat grades a quarter you can no longer own. Guidance is the only part of the release that describes the quarter you would actually be holding. The tape read the second document.
One line deserves care. The ad tier is still growing over 80% a year. That is a rate. The $2.7B is a size, and management just told you the size is smaller than it planned. Both are true at once, and headlines that only print the first one are selling you the trophy.
Netflix's own record of prior gap-down days is too thin to quote, so there is no stat here. The trimmed forecasts get their grade when the next quarter's numbers are filed.
