Two Bumble headlines landed today, about four hours apart.
First: Bumble Inc. "to Be Acquired" by Ithaca Holdings, which describes itself as "the Long-Term Holding Company for Enduring Technology Businesses." Second: a law firm inviting BMBL investors to "join" a fraud investigation.
$BMBL is +56.32% on the first one.
Look at what the first headline includes and what it leaves out. It gives you the buyer's description of itself. It does not give you the price per share, the closing timeline or the conditions. Those three things decide what a share is worth from here, and none of them is in the sentence people are trading.
The second headline is the kind of shareholder-firm solicitation that routinely follows deal news. It advertises an investigation. It is not a finding.
If this is a fixed-price takeover, the buyer has already set the ceiling. Paying up for a ceiling you haven't read is a strange way to buy a stock.
Monday's #SKK post covered a deal that had already closed. This one is still a promise.
